Waterfront Homes on Lake McQueeney
Lake McQueeney, was originally called Lake Abbott. It is a dammed portion of the Guadalupe River and is the self-proclaimed” Water Ski Capital of Texas”. Being home to the Lake Breeze Ski Lodge and Lake McQueeney Ski Bees makes Lake McQueeney one of the most sought after lakes with homes for sale in all of south central Texas. McQueeney is ideally located between New Braunfels and Seguin in Guadalupe County, Texas.
Lake McQueeney is Below Lake Dunlap and above Lake Placid, controlled and managed by the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority (GBRA). GBRA oversees the Guadalupe River lakes. Canyon Lake is the exception, it is controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers. The “main lake” has a surface area of 400 acres with a storage capacity of 5,050 acre-feet and is approximately 7 miles in length. Lake McQueeney homes for sale have a wide range of prices but due to demand they are usually higher than homes on other Guadalupe River lakes.
Waterfront Homes on Lake Dunlap
Located on the northwest border of Guadalupe County near New Braunfels, within an hour’s drive of both Austin and San Antonio; this 410-acre lake has a storage capacity of 5,900 acre-feet. Maximum depth near the dam is 40 feet. Lake Dunlap has a public boat ramp under I35 in New Braunfels for both lake residents and visitors to use. Lake Dunlap is popular for boating, wakeboarding, waterskiing, fishing, etc. Currently the Lake Dunlap Dam is being replaced due to a dam failure in 2018.

Waterfront Homes on Lake Placid
Lake Placid is a beautiful lake located in Guadalupe County between Lake McQueeney and Meadow Lake and is a part of the Guadalupe River chain of lakes managed by the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority (aka GBRA). This constant level lake is slightly smaller than Lake Dunlap and Lake McQueeney with a surface area of 248 acres with a storage capacity of 2,624 acre-feet and a stretch of about 5 miles. Lake Placid is a popular lake for waterskiing, wakeboarding, wake-surfing, fishing, and swimming. The Lake Placid community has a voluntary homeowners group called Citizens United for Lake Placid (C.U.L.P). This group helps to be a conduit for communication between the Lake Placid property owners, GBRA, Guadalupe County and local and state law enforcement.
Lake Placid has a very similar feel to Lake Dunlap, however, real estate on this lake is generally more affordable than comparable properties on Lake McQueeney and Lake Dunlap. Lake Placid has a public boat ramp under Interstate 10 which allows easy access to the lake even for homes that are in subdivisions without private ramps. In addition, lake Placid is home to Son’s Island, a unique private island offering day rental cabanas, glamping, swimming, fishing, kayak rentals and live music. The Lake Placid dam is also scheduled to be replaced in the near future.
